What up, everyone? First and foremost, happy birthday and rest in peace to Tupac Shakur.  One of my folks sent a letter and asked me to expound on my definition of a G. I thought I’d share that with everyone.  “Ok. What is my definition of a G? As in ‘Keeping it G,’ etc?  First of all, my definition of a G is NOT a ‘gangsta,’ especially with an ‘a.’ My definition of a G is someone who handles their business with a certain demeanor. I would classify it as confidence. That confidence has a certain aggressiveness to it that, while being forceful, still manages not to come across as particularly menacing. A G is someone who is aware that he has these attributes and utilizes them to lead and accomplish goals. There is a strong moral aspect to the G, a personal code of ethics and principles that is strictly adhered to, and G’s can meet one another for the first time and come to know that they share these traits. Every true G will come to these same conclusions without ever having discussed them with one another. G’s tend to have a strong desire to do the right things, though circumstances may require dirt. A G will always keep it clean, even when he has to get dirty.  ‘Keepin’ it G’ is all of the above. ‘Keepin’ it gangsta’ is a cliche’ of cartoonish proportions. It is used to say that one is ‘keepin’ it real,’ but even that is excessive. It is not G to claim to be keepin’ it G. I don’t believe a real G would want to be defined as a gangster, with an ‘er’ and especially not with an ‘a.’  People watch certain sports stars and call them G. Kevin Garnet is G. Dwyane Wade is G. LeBron James is G. Barack Obama is G. That swagger. It has absolutely nothing to do with negativity, whereas ‘gangsta’ and ‘gangster’ have those negative connotations. Bill Clinton is undeniably G.  I personally believe that I will observe an adherence to the unspoken G-Code for the duration of my life. In my opinion, it is the only way to roll. It surpasses religion, neighborhood, gender and race. It makes one BETTER at those things.  This is just my opinion, of course, but who could read my words and say they’re not G?” Paaayce! Â
